Atagawa Onsen

🗻 Shizuoka|June 29, 2026

Atagawa Onsen

On the east coast of the Izu Peninsula in the town of Higashiizu, Atagawa Onsen is a seaside hot spring town full of classic spa atmosphere, with steam rising here and there throughout the streets. Known for its plentiful high-temperature waters, it spreads a sandy beach right before the hot spring district. The distinctive scenery where sea and steam coexist draws visitors in.

Highlights

Walking the town, you will meet sights typical of a hot spring resort, such as steam jetting from towers and spots where you can make hot spring eggs. At the open-air bath along the shore, you can soak to the sound of the waves. Nearby attractions where you can encounter tropical plants and animals make it popular with families too.

Enjoying the Seasons

In summer you can fully enjoy swimming at the beach right in front and pair it with bathing. In winter the steam stands out all the more in the clear air, and the warm water feels especially welcome. A seaside resort mood can be enjoyed throughout the year.

Access and Basic Information

The location is convenient, with the hot spring district reachable on foot from Izu-Atagawa Station on the Izu Kyuko Line. It is accessible by limited express from the Tokyo direction, and public baths and day-use facilities are available around the station.

A Quick Tip

Because the waters run hot, take care not to overheat and rest often. The seaside open-air bath is especially fine at dusk or in the morning.
