Akafuku Mochi in Oharaimachi, Ise City
Akafuku mochi is a signature confection of Ise with a history spanning more than three hundred years. It features soft pounded mochi gently wrapped in smooth strained red bean paste, a simple and beloved taste. The three ridges shaped on the surface of the paste are said to evoke the clear flow of the Isuzu River that runs beside the Inner Shrine of Ise Jingu, while the white mochi beneath represents the pebbles on the riverbed. It is a confection that symbolizes Ise and has long been cherished by shrine pilgrims.Highlights
At the main shop in Oharaimachi near the Inner Shrine, you can taste freshly made akafuku mochi. A plate enjoyed within the atmospheric shop while gazing at the Isuzu River is something special. The lightly sweet bean paste and soft mochi pair wonderfully with tea. Seasonal offerings include akafuku kori, a cold dessert in summer, and warm akafuku zenzai in winter.Enjoying the Seasons
Akafuku mochi can be enjoyed year round, but the seasonal limited menus are not to be missed.
